As Director of University Archives & Special Collections, I provide leadership in all aspects of collecting, processing, and making accessible archival collections. I am responsible for strategic planning within the department, and I promote, publicize, and expand awareness of collections by creating and nurturing ties with potential users and donors. In addition to this, I also serve as curator of the Political Papers Collection and work closely with The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement to coordinate and support key areas of research and focus. I am the liaison to Politics & International Relations, U.S. History, and Law, Politics, and Society. I develop and teach instruction sessions on primary source research, Drake University history, and oral histories as well as courses on archival methods and family history and genealogy.

I hold an MA in American History and an MLS, both from Indiana University-Bloomington, and a BA in History from Monmouth College. I have served as President of the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress (ACSC) and Chair of the Congressional Papers Section of the Society of American Archivists. I am also active in the Midwest Archives Conference. My research interests include accessibility of archival spaces and collections, teaching with primary sources, and the management of born digital congressional collections.

Hope’s Professional Presentations and Publications

Outside of work, I enjoy watching women’s basketball (especially the Drake Bulldogs!), running, reading, and spending time with my husband and daughter.
