Search for Missing Items

If a book or audio-visual item is not on the shelf:

  • Check the item’s record in the catalog to make sure it is not checked out.
  • Go to the Main Circulation Desk  on the First Floor to ask a staff member or student worker for assistance.
  • We will double check the shelf for the item, using several common search strategies. If the item is not located, you will be asked to fill out a Search Request Form about the missing item.
  • In-depth searches for the item will be then be conducted by staff for a couple of weeks and you will be notified of the results.  If the item is not found and declared missing, the staff may recommend that you place an order for the item through the Interlibrary Loan Department to obtain the item.  This service is only available to current faculty, staff, and students.  Others can use their local public library to order Interlibrary Loan items.
