Maria Valdovinos Psychology Applied Behavior Analysis

The program under consideration is a Master’s program in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is but one branch of behaviorism in which the principles of behavior are applied to social issues in order to systematically change and improve behavior. The focus ABA is to determine the functional relationship between behavior and its consequences and to modify behavior by changing the contingencies that maintain it using reliable and objective measures. At the present moment ABA has been heralded as the optimal treatment for children with autism by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Autism Speaks because of its five decade long scientifically valid demonstration of effectiveness. Furthermore, studies in Organizational Behavior Management (an application of ABA to businesses) have demonstrated great potential in revolutionizing the health care industry. Upon completion of this program, students would be eligible to sit for the Behavior Analysis Certification Board Exam (a certification that increases future employment opportunities worldwide). The program would launch in the Fall of 2015 and would be a 5 semester or 2 year program (9 credit hours per semester or 45 hours total).

Wendy Duncan Pharmacy Doctor of Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists (OT) treat patients with injuries, illnesses, or disabilities through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. They help these patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. OTs held approximately 108,800 jobs in 2010. Forty-eight percent work in the offices of physical, occupational and speech therapists, and audiologists or hospitals. Others work in schools, nursing homes, and home health services.

We are proposing a four-year post-baccalaureate program the results in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree (OTD). There are fewer entry-level doctoral programs (currently 5 accredited programs) than masters programs and demand for them is rapidly growing. It is likely that the OTD will become the entry-level degree in the near future. Students must complete a baccalaureate degree before entering the OTD program.
