Quick Poll

Do you know how to contact a librarian for assistance?:

Requesting Checked Out Items Be Recalled

If an item is checked out, a hold may be placed on the item at the All Services desk and a recall notice will be sent to the individual who currently has the item checked out.

  • All library materials are subject to recall after three weeks when needed by another patron.
  • The recall due date overrides the orginal due date.
  • If an item is needed for a class reserve, the item is subject to immediate recall.
  • All Drake-affiliated users will be blocked from further check outs if they have two or more overdue recalled items.
  • Special users will be blocked with one overdue recalled item.
  • Failure to read your email is not a valid excuse for the delayed return of recalled items.
  • Faculty & staff who expect to be absent for extended periods of time, such as sabbaticals, FMLA, break periods, vacations, etc., should make the necessary arrangements to ensure that library materials can be located and returned to Cowles Library in their absence.

When the recalled item has been returned, the patron who placed the hold will be notified by email that the item is now available. The item will be held for 10 days (books), or for three days (media).

Items not picked up with in the hold period:

  • The hold will be removed from the requesting patron's account.
  • The item will be returned to its home location, or the next patron in line for the item will be contacted through email.
