Trial Database - LexisNexis CRDC Prospective

Drake Law Library has initiated a trial of LexisNexis CRDC Prospective through June 30, 2009 with plans to purchase a license to begin December 1, 2009.  This database will replace GalleryWatch CRS Reports (EBSCO) on that date.

LexisNexis CRDC (Congressional Research Digital Collection) Prospective combines Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports and congressional committee prints into one easy-to-use module.  It contains comprehensive information on a wide variety of topics. The LexisNexis CRDC includes abstracting, indexing, bibliographic information, and searchable PDFs for CRS reports from 1916-present and committee prints from 1830-present.

Trial Database - ACLS Humanities E-Book

A trial of ACLS Humanities E-Book has been set up through September 30, 2009.

This database includes 220 full-text, cross-searchable books in the humanities selected for their continuing importance to students and scholars. The project includes both in-print and out-of-print books and is a collaboration of the American Council of Learned Societies, various constituent members of the ACLS and over 100 publishers.

Areas include: African, American, Asian, Latin American, Canadian, Caribbean, European (ancient, medieval, renaissance, and modern), Middle Eastern, World/comparative, Byzantine/Mediterranean and Australasian/Oceanian history, plus women's history, Jewish studies, history of the native peoples of the Americas and of science and technology. Additional areas include: archaeology, art & architectural history, dance & performance history, film & media studies, folklore, religion, musicology, and political science.

The site allows for simultaneous multi-user access; individual books can be added to e-reserve, and you can link from your syllabus to books/chapters. A cataloging record for each book in the collection would appear in our catalog with a link to the online text.

Trial Database - AP Images

A trial of AP Images has been set up through September 15, 2009.

AP Images is a database of over 180 years of history as witnessed by The Associated Press.

More than 5 million photographs from 1825 to today, with about 3,000 new photos added every day.

    GRAPHICS: More than one hundred thousand graphics, including maps, timelines, logos and graphs. 
    AUDIO: Over one million audio clips from the 1920s forward, including hourly newscasts.
    TEXT:  Over one million news stories.

The Associated Press has won more Pulitzer Prizes than any other news agency, and is the most credible source for non-biased reporting. AP Images is a totally new interface with state-of-the-art search functions and save options. Availability of all the AP Image content for downloading and use for research and educational purposes.

Trial Database - Harper's Digital Archive

A free trial of Harper's Magazine and digital archives is available now through November 13, 2009.

Harper's is a monthly general-interest magazine covering literature, politics, culture and the arts.  The second oldest continuously-published magazine in the United States, Harper's was launched in June 1850.  Its early issues included material that had already been published in England, but the publication soon began to print the work of American artists and writers.  It subsequently published commentaries by prominent politicians from both sides of the Atlantic, such as Winston Churchill and Woodrow Wilson.  Other notable contributors include Horatio Alger, Stephen A. Douglas, Robert Frost, Henry James, Jack London, Theodore Roosevelt, Mark Twain and John Updike.

Trial Database - IRIS (Illinois Researcher Information Service)

A free trial of the IRIS Database is available now through November 9, 2009.

The IRIS Database (with Alert and Expertise Services) contains records of over 9,300 federal and private funding opportunities in all fields.  Updated on a daily basis, every record in the database is reviewed and edited at least once a year.  Searchable by keyword or specific field, searches can be limited by deadline date, citizenship, academic level, and other criteria.  IRIS records provide contact information (including email addresses). a brief but informative description of the program, and clickable keywords from the IRIS Keyword Thesaurus.  Find more information and tips at IRIS: A Short Course.

Trial Database - Papers of Dwight D. Eisenhower

We have set up a free trial of The Papers of Dwight David Eisenhower through November 14, 2009.

This database provides the most comprehensive collection (over 14,000 pages) of the 34th U.S. president's most significant writings, including letters, memoranda, cables and directives from the years prior to World War II through the full term of Eisenhower's presidency.

Trial Database - Publishing Opportunities Database

A trial of EBSCO's Publishing Opportunities Database has been set up through October 2009.

Publishing Opportunities Database provides an extensive listing of opportunities from three distinct sources, for professors, post-doctorates and other students interested in presenting and publishing their research papers: Journal Call for Papers records index, Conference Call for Papers, and Special Issue Call for Papers.

Trial Database! Federal Research In Progress (FEDRIP)

A trial of Federal Research In Progress (FEDRIP) has been set up through September 1, 2009.

The Federal Research In Progress (FEDRIP) database provides access to information about ongoing federally funded projects in the fields of the physical sciences, engineering, and life sciences. The ongoing research announced in FEDRIP is an important component to the technology transfer process in the United States. FEDRIP's uniqueness lies in its structure as a non-bibliographic information source of research in progress.

Project descriptions generally include: project title, keywords, start date, estimated completion date, principal investigator, performing and sponsoring organizations, summary, and progress report. Record content varies depending on the source agency.

Trial Database! Gallup Brain

Now through June 2010, we have a trial of Gallup BrainGallup Brain replaces Gallup Poll Briefing, Gallup's print publication that ceased in December 2008.  Gallup Brain includes answers to thousands of questions, and responses from millions of people interviewed by The Gallup Poll since 1935. 

This public opinion database also houses Gallup Poll and Gallup Management Journal articles that feature in-depth public opinion and management data analyses.

Now through July 31, we have a trial of UpToDate.  UpToDate is an "evidence based, peer reviewed information resource used by clinicians, patients and the majority of academic medical centers in the U.S."

Trial Databases - Mergent

We have set up three Mergent databases to trial through September 30, 2009.

  • Mergent Horizon - An online research application that includes the most comprehensive database of US-traded companies organized by the goods and services from which they derive their revenues as well as their key business relationships.
  • Mergent WebReports - This database of digital corporate manuals allows access to a vast archive of corporate and industry related documents.  WebReports contains more than 180,000 documents covering over 100 countries and industries.
